Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a long-established method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing. This is achieved by inserting sterilised, single use, stainless-steel needles - which are as fine as a human hair - into specific points located near or on the surface of the skin which have the ability to alter various biochemical and physiological conditions in order to treat a wide variety of illnesses.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views a person as an energy system in which body, mind and soul are unified - each influencing and balancing the other. Unlike Western medicine which attempts to isolate and separate a disease from a person, Chinese Medicine emphasizes a holistic approach that treats the whole person. Symptoms are not viewed in isolation but as a part of the whole individual.

At Red Dragon Alternative Medicine our practitioners make a Chinese medical diagnosis based upon a thorough history, examination and consultation. This examination may include the assessment of the pulse and tongue. Once a diagnosis is made the most appropriate acupuncture points for treatment are used and our practitioner will discuss the need for herbs, if any. Treatment plans are very much indivualised.

Qi (pronounced chee) can be defined as the "energy" or "vital substance" that animates and controls the observable functions of living beings. The basic foundation for Chinese medicine is that Qi flows through the body on channels known as meridians that connect all of our major organs. According to Chinese medical theory, illness arises when the cyclical flow of Qi in the meridians becomes unbalanced or is blocked. At Red Dragon Alternative Medicine we work on ensuring the energy continues to flow and remains balanced.

This treatment may leave a bruise, your practitioner will discuss this with you prior to treatment and the bruise fades after a couple of days.
